A Pier is a structure built on posts extending from land out over water, used as a landing place for ships, an entertainment area, a strolling place, etc.; jetty. (in a bridge or the like) a support for the ends of adjacent spans. A Pier can also be described as a column constructed to support buildings, bridges and platforms. ABulkhead is a structure or partition built to resist pressure or to shut off water, fire, or gas or is a retaining wall along a waterfront. Revetments are sloping structures placed on banks or mounds in such a way as to absorb the energy of incoming water. A platform extends from a shore over water and is used to secure, protect, and provide access to a boat or ship.
